Project DREAMS Practicals is a subproject under the broader Project DREAMS initiative by the P. Kesavadev Trust, dedicated to supporting individuals with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). DREAMS, which stands for Diabetes Resources, Education, Awareness, Advocacy, Mentorship, and Support, aims to enhance the lives of those affected by T1D through a comprehensive approach. The Practicals focus on delivering hands-on educational experiences for T1D patients, their parents, and teachers. By providing practical knowledge and skills through interactive learning and group activities, DREAMS Practicals empowers participants with the tools necessary for effective diabetes management. The program has conducted sessions across multiple districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Alappuzha, and Kochi, each building on the foundation laid by previous sessions to cover various aspects of diabetes care, from basic education to advanced insulin management.
What sets DREAMS Practicals apart from others of the same sort is its comprehensive approach and emphasis on practical, real-life application of diabetes management techniques. Each session is designed to foster a collaborative and supportive environment, encouraging personal connections among participants and enhancing their confidence in managing T1D. The program includes activities such as glucose prediction games, carbohydrate counting exercises, and interactive discussions on managing diabetes during illness. Additionally, the use of engaging games like the Balloon Game of Myths and Facts helps dispel common misconceptions about T1D. By combining education with practical tools and resources, DREAMS Practicals not only imparts crucial knowledge but also ensures participants leave with tangible aids to support their daily diabetes management.
