Diabscreen Kerala Camps
Diabscreen Kerala is the prestigious project of P.Kesavadev Trust, launched in the year 1997 and headed by Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev. Promoting diabetes awareness for over 20 years, the Diabscreen Kerala team comprising of the multidisciplinary team of doctors, dieticians, nurses, diabetes educators, pharmacists, psychologists etc. conduct multiple awareness sessions for the prevention and management of diabetes and other lifestyle illnesses stressing the importance of evading the costly and debilitating complications of diabetes in addition to educational, awareness and training programs as part of its social responsibility. Though the exact numbers are not known, we had completed more than 660 camps across the country.
The activities of Diabscreen Kerala camps include free anthropometric measurements, lab investigations followed by awareness sessions and consultation with a team of experts including doctors, dieticians, diabetes educators and psychologists. The services including consultations are offered free of cost to the participants of the camps. Medications including insulin are provided free and the participants are strictly instructed to continue treatment with their treating physician.
Public education was initiated by Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev and the team at a time when knowledge about the consequences of diabetes was unknown to the public. Historically, this is supposed to be the first ever organized and consistently run diabetes awareness program in the state of Kerala. The conduct of Diabscreen Kerala camps have been severely affected by the COVID pandemic.
