The 19th prestigious P.Kesavadev Awards were presented to two exceptional individuals who have made significant contributions in the fields of literature and medicine.
Dr. Deshamangalam Ramakrishnan, a renowned poet and academician, was honored with the P. Kesavadev Literary Award. The jury acknowledged the profound emotional impact of his works, including "Ashtavakrante Veenduvicharangal," "Chithal Varum Kaalam," "India Gate," "Ivide oru Vaakum Santhvanam Aavilla," and "Enne Kandmuttanenikkavumo?," which inspired introspection among readers.
In recognition of his remarkable contributions to health education, particularly in the field of liver diseases, Dr. Cyriac Abby Phlips was chosen as the recipient of the P. Kesavadev Diabscreen Award. Dr. Phlips, a distinguished liver specialist based in Kochi, is widely known as 'The Liver Doc' on social media. Through his advocacy, he has been educating the public about the detrimental effects of unscientific treatments and alcohol consumption on liver health.
Both awardees were presented with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each, a statuette created by artist B. D. Dathan, and a certificate. The awards were conferred by the Minister for General Education and Labour, Government of Kerala, V. Sivankutty, during the annual P. Kesavadev memorial meeting held at Kesavadev Hall in Mudavanmugal, Thiruvananthapuram on June 7.
