Fear of diabetes can tempt people with diabetes to explore the possible methods which are accessible to them to alleviate the disease burden and to improve the quality of life. This study published in ‘‘Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome: Clinical Research & Reviews’’ explores the interplay between fear or threat perception and adoption of health apps among individuals with diabetes.
This observational study employed both a handout questionnaire and an online survey tool, Survey Monkey, for data collection. Using purposive sampling, data were collected from 222 individuals aged 35 years and above with diabetes in Chennai. The results point out that threat perception can stimulate health app usage among people with increased diabetic conditions because of the fear of the adverse outcomes of the disease. Additionally, a significant positive correlation exists between perceived threat of diabetes, daily app usage, and consistent app use.
The findings from the study underscore that the vulnerability of patients with diabetes to threats influences their behavioral changes and introduces new avenues for encouraging health app usage among high-risk groups.
