October 25, 2021: JPEF Mini CME October 2021
The JPEF Mini CME, October 2021, 'It’s time to prevent covid deaths' was hosted virtually on 25 October 2021, from 07:00 pm to 09:00 pm. The program was set off by Ms.Gopika Krishnan, Director, Academics and Research, Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre (JDC) with a brief welcome. The scientific sessions began with the lecture on ‘Acarbose in the era of newer OADs' ' by Dr.Banshi Saboo, RSSDI President. Dr.Arun Shankar, Medical Director, JDC and Dr.Syam D Gopal, Consultant Physician, Sree Narayana Medical Mission Hospital, Varkala were the chairpersons of the session
Dr. Banshi Saboo virtually inaugurated 'Diabetes Knowledge Library- The door to ultimate virtual education'. Knowledge library is a curated collection of videos initiated by Jothydev's Professional Education Forum (JPEF) under Kesavadev Trust, which is digitally accessible to the public and doctors for reference and academic motives.
Subsequently, there was the launch of the video series 'History of Internal Medicine'. The video series was developed based on a seminar on 'History and Evolution of Internal Medicine in Kerala' organized by Kesavadev Trust as part of the Kesavadev Museum project back on 20 March 2019. Prof. K.V Krishna Das, who is aptly known as the father of internal medicine in Kerala, launched the video series. Dr.MV Pillai (USA), Dr.Manojan K K, Director, Sree Gokulam Medical College, and Dr.Asha Asik, Clinical Head, JDC, Kochi, gave the felicitation.
The last technical session of the event was the panel discussion "COVID-19 in Kerala- sharing the success stories”. Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev was the moderator of the session. Dr.Sunil Prasobh P (Kollam), Dr.Sumesh Raj (Trivandrum), Dr.Boby Moses (Trivandrum), Dr.B Padma Kumar (Alleppey), Dr.Anand Pillai (Trivandrum), Dr.Shiji PV (Calicut), Dr.A.V Raveendran (Oman) were the panelists. The panelists gave insights on rich experiences learned over the past 2 years treating COVID. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms.Sunitha Jothydev, Executive Director, JDC. Hundreds of doctors from around Kerala participated in this virtual educational event.
September 27, 2021: Type 1 Management in children - what should teachers know?
On 27 September 2021, P.Kesavadev Trust organized a training program for school and college teachers titled ‘Type 1 Management in children - what should teachers know?’. Kerala Education Minister, Shri V. Sivankutty inaugurated and spoke at the program. The program was set off by Ms.Sunitha Jothydev, Executive Director, Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre (JDC), with a brief welcome speech. Subsequently, Ms. Gopika Krishnan, Director, Academics, gave a compendious speech on Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre (JDC).
Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev gave a brief talk on ‘type 1 diabetes’. Dr.Arun Shankar, Medical Director, JDC, elaborated on the difference between ‘Type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes’. Ms.Geethu Sanal, Chief Dietitian, spoke on ‘Hypoglycemia and carb counting basics’. Ms.Akhila Manoj and Ms.Remya Jose, diabetes nurses, spoke on ‘Insulin administration techniques, insulin pump, CGM’ and ‘Glucometer’ respectively. This was followed by a lively discussion. The program was concluded by Dr.Arun Shankar, with a vote of thanks. More than 200 teachers actively participated in the workshop.

Virtual Covid In-Patient (VCIP) Care, a novel concept of providing “in-patient” level care at home during the pandemic, can prevent overwhelming hospitals was introduced by Jothydev’s Diabetes Research Centre. Recently the team published their findings in the journal ‘Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome: Clinical Research and Reviews.’ This new interventional home care model for Covid management has shown that among 220 patients who availed of the virtual Covid inpatient facility, only two were hospitalised yielding a 99.5 per cent success rate in preventing hospitalisations.

Jothydev’s Professional Education Forum (JPEF) and P Kesavadev Trust hosted the 9th Annual Global Convention 2021 virtually on 9, 10 and 11 July 2021 along with its academic partners DiabetesIndia,

The 9th JPEF 2021 was designed with the theme, ‘Saving Lives, Making The Impossible Possible!’ in view of one of the greatest

29 May, 2021: Mini JPEF e-Symposium on POCT
On behalf of P Kesavadev Trust and JPEF, a Mini e-Symposium ‘Relevance of In-clinic Point Of Care Testing (POCT) for diabetes management during pandemic, was hosted virtually on 29 May 2021, from 07:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The scientific symposium comprised of two live interactive educational sessions with experts and an exciting quiz session. The program was set off by Ms.Gopika Krishnan, Head, Academics, Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre (JDC) with a brief welcome and introduction.
The first session was on ‘Management of diabetes and its complications with POCT’ by Dr.B. M Makkar, Senior Diabetologist & Obesity Specialist, Dr.Makkar’s Diabetes & Obesity Centre, answering the questions raised by Ms. Beena Chandran, Clinical Research Coordinator, JDC. The session was chaired by Dr. Arun Shankar, Senior Diabetologist & Medical Director, JDC.
Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev, Chairman and Managing Director, JDC subsequently answered the questions raised by Ms. Anjana Basanth, Coordinator, Academics, JDC on ‘Relevance of POCT during the pandemic’. The session was moderated by Dr. Asha Ashik, Chief Diabetologist & Clinical Head, JDC, Kochi. This was followed by a very interesting quiz session that included 10 questions. Dr. Venugopalan K, was the winner of the quiz.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Arun Shankar. Hundreds of doctors around India participated in this virtual educational event.

October 9, 2020: JPEF Mini CME 2020
Jothydev's Professional Education Forum (JPEF) is purely a scientific platform for the knowledge update of doctors and their multi-disciplinary team to apply the technologies and skills in day to day clinical practice. JPEF in association with Kesavadev Trust is actively indulged in educating the doctors about the various aspects of management of diabetes for decades by conducting International and national diabetes conventions and monthly JPEF mini CMEs.
Due to the prevailing pandemic of COVID-19, JPEF Mini CME 2020 was conducted virtually, as education should not cease during these difficult times. The JPEF Mini CME was organized in a virtual platform on 9 October 2020, in association with Kesavadev Trust and Medical Association AMS Nemom Chapter. The theme of the digital convention was 'Fighting COVID- Providing patient the best’.
JPEF Mini CME 2020 was conducted from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and was marked by 6 lectures. The welcome was by Ms.Gopika Krishnan, Academic Head Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centres and Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev, Chairman and Managing Director, Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centres. The scientific session commenced with a lecture by Dr.Sunil Prasobh P, Physician & Diabetologist, additional Prof. of Internal Medicine, Govt. Medical College, Kollam, who spoke on 'Staging and treatment of COVID-19: October 2020 update'. The session was moderated by Dr.Sumesh Raj, Prof. of Internal Medicine & Diabetology Sree Gokulam Medical College.
This was followed by a momentary inaugural ceremony. The guest of the virtual event was Dr.Gopinathan Nair, President, Indian Medical Association, Nemom Chapter.
Next was a lecture by Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev on 'Two upcoming launches in India: Rybelsus(oral semaglutide) and Libre-a teaser', which was chaired by Ms.Gopika Krishnan. This session was succeeded by Dr.A.G. Unnikrishnan, CEO and Chief of Endocrinology, Chellaram Diabetes Institute, Pune, who spoke on 'Tackling time in range with newer basal insulins'. Dr.Arun Shankar, Medical Director of Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centres was the chairperson of the session.
The next three lectures were chaired by Dr.Mohanan Nair, Chairman IMA-AMS, Nemom Chapter and Dr.Prasanth Sankar, Consultant in Internal Medicine & Diabetes, MGM Muthoot Hospitals, Pathanamthitta.
The first talk of this session was 'SGLT2i: evolving science in the space of CKD' given by Dr.Georgi Abraham, Prof. of Medicine, Pondicherry Institute of Medical Science, Director, Nephrology, Madras Medical Mission, Chennai. Subsequently, Dr.A.G. Unnikrishnan spoke about 'CKD with diabetes: a case-based discussion'. The last talk of this session was given Dr.MadhuSreedhar, Director, NIMS Heart foundation, on 'heart failure with CKD-A case-based approach and was followed by a panel discussion. The convention was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr.Arun Shankar.
October 7, 2020: Madhura Nakshathra sangamam - Type 1 Diabetes Program
P.Kesavadev Trust and Type 1 Diabetic Welfare Society jointly organized Madhura Nakshathra Sangamam, a virtual event to lay out knowledge on Type 1 diabetes, innovative treatments, glucometers, new technologies and care during COVID times on 27 September 2020.
Jothydev's Diabetes Team consists of Doctors, Dieticians, Diabetes nurses, Diabetes educators etc. Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev, Chairman and managing director of Jothydev’s Diabetes Research Centre, Dr.Arun Shankar, medical director, JDC, Ms.Gopika Krishnan, academic head, JDC, Dr.Sajna Shijin, Ms. Geethu Sanal, chief dietician, Ms.Akhila Manoj, Diabetes Nurse, Ms.Remya Jose, Diabetes Nurse and Ms Beena Chandran, Clinical Research Coordinator spoke at the event. June 27, 2020: 2nd AIAARO Kerala Chapter Online Meeting
The second AIAARO Kerala chapter online conference was conducted on 27th June 2020 in association with JPEF, with the theme "COVIDOSITY- The Double pandemic". Illustrious experts from all over the country spoke on various aspects of obesity aligning with the theme of the conference. Doctors, dietitians, diabetes educators and members of diabetes/obesity team attended the lectures. The welcome speech was by Dr.Madhu N, Organising Chairperson. Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev, Vice President AIAARO Kerala Chapter and Ms.Geethu Sanal, Secretory AIAARO Kerala Chapter briefed about the activities of the AIAARO Kerala Chapter. The virtual conference was inaugurated by AIAARO National President, Dr.Banshi Saboo and delivered the presidential oration on "Reversal of diabetes by Calorie Restriction? or by Component Modification?". The session was chaired by Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev.
Ms. Sheryl Salis renowned expert gave a comprehensive talk on "Facts about Keto Diet". The chair of the session was Dr.Asha Ashik, Diabetologist Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre, Kochi. A lecture on "Time to address Silent Epidemic: Recent Advances in GLP-1 RAs" was given by Dr.Arun S Menon, Senior Consultant Endocrinologist AIMS. The informative session was chaired by Dr.Radhakrishnan A.P, Consultant Physician and Diabetologist, Palakkad Diabetes Centre. Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev, Chairman and Managing Director Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre lectured on "A1c VS Time in Range in Weight Reduction", which was chaired by Ms.Gopika Krishnan Director, Research and Academics, Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre. Valuable insights on "Normal Weight Obesity Syndrome" was given by Dr.AjithKumar.S, Director Dr.Ajith's Total Diabetes Care Centre, Trivandrum under the chair of Dr.Syam D Gopal, Senior Consultant Physician, Sivagiri Sree Narayana Mission Hospital, Varkala. Dr.Unnikrishnan, Consultant at Centre for Rehabilitation and Pain Relief, Saraswathy Hospital, Parassala addressed the topic "Is Aerobic or Anaerobic Training Better for Overall Weight Loss?" . The session was chaired by Dr.Madhu N Consultant Surgeon and Managing Director Chaitanya hospital, North Paravoor. Ms.Shilpa Joshi, Director of Mumbai Diet and Health Centre provided a sermon on "Diet And Weight Loss: Why Do You Feel Hungry?", which was chaired by Dr.Arun Shankar, Senior Consultant Diabetologist and Medical Director, Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre. Dr.Dharini Krishnan, Registered Dietitian shared her expertise on the topic "Does one Diet Fit All?". The session was chaired by Dr.Jayalekshmi R Kurup, Senior Medical Officer, Cochin Port Trust Hospital. Ms.Manju George, Chief Dietitian, Lakeshore and Lourdes Hospital gave detailed advice on "How to master Mindful Eating to Lose Weight", chaired by Dr.Ashwin David Ashok, Clinical Head and Chief Diabetologist, Jothydev'sDiabetes Research Centre,Attingal and Ms.Geethu Sanal, Chief Dietitian, Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre, Trivandrum. A heated debate between Dr.Anuj Maheshwari, Professor and Head in Medicine, BBD University, Lucknow a nd Mrs.Meenakshi Bajaj, Registered Dietitian, on "Dieting keeps you fit in covid times" was conducted, mediated by Dr.Sumesh Raj, Professor of Medicine and Diabetology, Sree Gokulam Medical College. The sessions concluded with a panel discussion on "COVID induced obesity" with Dr.Benny PV, Professor and Head of the Department of Community Medicine, Sree Gokulam Medical College, as the moderator. The discussion covered 4 topics, "What could have contributed to obesity in patients with existing illnesses"?
"Mental components of obesity during lockdown", "Realistic indoor physical activity recommendations" and "Changing eating habits with stay home instructions" by speakers Dr.Jayalekshmi R Kurup, Dr.Arun B Nair, Dr.Roy R Chandran and Ms.Geethu Sanal respectively.

Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev was live in Facebook on June 19, 2020 and he answered to the questions asked by diabetes patients. He also advised on managing diabetes during COVID-19 in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients.
