9. JDC Updates

Presence at 25th AACE Annual Meeting 2016: May 25-29, 2016

JDC had original research papers presented at the 25th Annual Meeting of American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) at Orlando, Florida from May 25-29, 2016. In a study presented from Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centers, it was found that optimising Vitamin D levels in blood has profound effect on improving diabetes control. 2134 subjects were screened for Vitamin D deficiency. Deficiency was severe in 60% and moderately in 27%. With the emerging evidence of low Vitamin D levels being linked to major disorders, including cancers and fractures, this research from India, documenting normal Vitamin D levels in only 12% of patients and its association with diabetes control, gained huge attention.

In another study from Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre, a risk score was developed for treating children with type 1 diabetes. It is a well established fact that the treatment of diabetes in children is largely a failure. Even when insulin and diabetes supplies are provided free of cost, majority succumb to recurrent episodes of high sugars and low sugars and subsequent complications.

The risk score developed by KT1DP(Kesavadev Trust Type 1 diabetes program) identified major reasons for failure and success and with the help of KT1DP risk score, physicians can easily identify those subjects likely to fail; thereby implementing effective preventive strategies and individualized approach.
