Over the years, diabetes has become the number one cause for chronic kidney disease necessitating very expensive medications and interventions such as dialysis and renal transplantations. Comprehensive management of diabetes will certainly prevent damage to the kidney in the vast majority of subjects. Patients should be adequately educated to adopt the best preventive therapies from day one of diagnosis of diabetes.
10 March is World Kidney Day (WKD). World kidney day aims to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys to our overall health and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide.
