5. Renowned Scientist & Diabetologist Dr.Mohan Honoured By Government Of India

 Dr. V. Mohan, Chairman and Chief of Diabetology at Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre and President & Director of the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation has been conferred the Padma Shri by the Govt. of India for his pioneering work in the field of diabetes in which he has been working for over 30 years. Dr. Mohan runs 11 diabetes centres for treatment of diabetes and 2 diabetes research centres and a diabetes education academy. Dr. Mohan has published over 700 research papers in prestigious peer reviewed journals and books.

Dr. Mohan has been elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Sciences Academy (FNA), by the Indian National Science Academy, Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences (FASc), Bangalore and Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences (FNASc), Allahabad and is one of the few practicing medical doctors to have received all these three prestigious Science Fellowships in India. He is also one of the few doctors in India to have received Fellowships from all the four Royal College of Physicians viz., FRCP from London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Ireland. For his original research contributions, Dr. Mohan has received over 100 awards to date from various international and national organizations including the prestigious Dr. B.C. Roy National Award by the Medical Council of India, the Basanthi Devi Amirchand Prize from the Indian Council of Medical Research and the Wockhardt Medical Excellence Award from Harvard Medical International, Boston, U.S.A. and the World India Diabetes Foundation (WIDF) Award for Outstanding Investigator in Diabetes from the Mayo Clinic, USA. He also contributes extensively to charity and runs 3 free diabetic clinics providing free treatment to thousands of poor patients.

Deeply spiritual and God fearing Dr. Mohan has been a member of the Ayyappa Bhaktha Sabha for many years. He is also the Convenor of Sri Sathya Sai Trust (Tamil Nadu). Dr. Mohan owes all his success to the blessings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and the support of his late wife Dr. Rema, his father late Prof. Viswanthan and all other family members and the staff of his various institutions.
