4. Reduce body weight to improve Sex Hormone levels!!!
Prediabetic, overweight men with low testosterone show improvements in testosterone levels after lifestyle modifications consisting of calorie and fat reductions and exercise. “Weight loss can reduce prevalence of low testosterone levels in overweight men with prediabetes by almost 50%” said Andrew A. Dwyer, MD, of Massachusetts General Hospital, during a presentation at the Endocrine Society’s 94th Annual Meeting and Expo.

Dwyer and colleagues studied 891 men with IGT from the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP). None of the men were taking medications that could interfere with testosterone levels. BMI and waist circumference, physical activity completed per week, insulin sensitivity (homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance [HOMA-IR]) and reproductive hormone levels were analyzed at baseline and 12 months. Lifestyle modification program involving 150 minutes per week of exercise and calorie and fat reductions in their diets were also included.

Dwyer and colleagues found that the lifestyle modification increases endogenous T levels and reduces the prevalence of hypogonadism by 46%.Moreover, hypogonadal testosterone levels did not differ with metformin (24.8% vs. 23.8%) or placebo (25.6% vs. 24.6%).
