 Dr. Lois Jovanovic, the diabetes research pioneer who changed the area of pregnancy and diabetes by developing protocols that made it possible for women with diabetes to deliver healthy babies passed away on September 18, 2018. She was 71 and had herself been treated for type 1 diabetes since giving birth decades ago.She never stopped seeking a cure for type 1 diabetes and was a leader in early artificial pancreas trials. Her research also led to the development of precision insulin infusion devices and prototypes for an artificial pancreas.
An avid researcher, she published more than 500 articles, many on diabetes in pregnancy. She joined the Sansum Diabetes Research Institute, Santa Barbara in 1986 and was its chief executive from 1996 until her retirement at the end of 2013. Among her accolades was the Outstanding Physician Award from the American Diabetes Association.
A good friend of Dr.Jothydev, Dr.Javanoic will be fondly remembered for her invaluable contributions to diabetes research.
