The U.S.Food and Drug Administration has approved Tandem Diabetes Care t:Slim X2 insulin pump with interoperable technology (interoperable t:Slim X2). This simple-to-use pump includes advanced features like a large color touchscreen, rechargeable battery, Bluetooth® wireless technology, USB connectivity and watertight construction. It is capable of remote software updates using a personal computer, offering the potential for users to access new features. The t:slim X2 Pump is up to 38 percent smaller than other insulin pumps and holds up to 300 units of insulin.
t:Slim X2 is the first insulin pump to be included in the category of alternate controller enabled (ACE) infusion pump, or ACE insulin pump, and is the first interoperable pump, i.e. it can be used with different components of diabetes therapy systems, and allows tailoring the diabetes management to their individual device preferences. Diabetes therapy systems may be comprised of an ACE insulin pump and other compatible medical devices, such as continuous glucose monitors, blood glucose meters, or automated insulin dosing systems.

Roche received CE Mark for its Accu Chek® Solo micropump system. It offers the functionalities of a traditional insulin pump alongside the technological advancement of tube-free insulin delivery. The system consists of two parts: a small, lightweight and semi-disposable insulin micropump and a fully-featured remote control incorporating blood glucose monitoring and bolus advice. It offers users the choice to bolus directly from the pump or from the fully-functional handheld as well as to detach and re-attach the pump without wasting insulin.
