In a recent study by Jothydev’s Diabetes Research Centre, presented at the 17th International Conference 2024 on Advanced Technologies & Treatments for Diabetes in Florence, Italy, groundbreaking insights were presented on the use of intermittent scanning Continuous Glucose Monitoring (isCGM) devices in managing type 2 diabetes (T2D).
The study analyzed data from 67 individuals with T2D, leveraging isCGM technology to track their blood glucose levels. Despite the lack of a mobile app for data transfer in India, researchers gathered information through direct reader access, including A1C levels before and after CGM use, time in range (TIR), time below range (TBR), time above range (TAR), and the treatment regimens followed.
One of the study's pivotal findings is the negative correlation between TIR and post-A1C levels, with a correlation coefficient of -0.499. This indicates that individuals who maintained a higher TIR often experienced a reduction in A1c levels, highlighting the effectiveness of CGM in improving glycemic control.
Particularly noteworthy is the success among older adults with diabetes (> 60 years), with 74.3% achieving a TIR of more than 70% alongside minimal TBR, showcasing the potential of CGM in enhancing diabetes management for senior patients.
The research underscores the importance of personalized diabetes care, suggesting that with appropriate technology and adherence to recommended guidelines, patients can achieve better glycemic control, leading to improved overall health outcomes. This study not only sheds light on the practical benefits of isCGM devices but also encourages a more nuanced approach to diabetes management, prioritizing individual needs and treatment effectiveness.
