Hi,

Globally, November 14th is observed as World Diabetes Day (WDD). The theme for WDD 2017 was Women and Diabetes. Diabetes is the 9th leading cause of death in women and one in seven births is affected by gestational diabetes. JDC as in the previous years was very much active in spreading the WDD messages among the public by means of its month-long initiatives such as diabetes awareness and screening camps, educational messages through different media, Blue monument lighting etc. Gems Video in this issue will provide you with a glimpse of these events.

Drug update includes one of our recently published article that revealed the benefit of Sitagliptin (100 mg) over glimepiride (1–3 mg) as an add-on therapy in Indian T2DM patients on treatment With Insulin and Metformin (SWIM study).

A new research published in ‘Diabetes Care’ reveals that HbA1c levels may be used to predict T2DM. Other articles include the role of endogenous vitamin D levels in preventing T1D, benefits of having a diet rich in omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids in reducing T2D risk etc. Our regular updates - Gems picture of the month, Recipe of the month, JDC updates continue.
